Job Purpose:

We are looking for an experienced Buyer on a Fixed Term basis of up to 6 months to support the strategic and operational management of packaging/ingredients purchases (and other goods and services) through effective data analysis, data mining, forecasting using systems (Microsoft Dynamics & Excel) and market research, with an objective to provide timely availability of materials for operations/production team.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet suppliers and negotiate terms of contract.

  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers for future products.

  • Understand the basic rules of vendor management, allocation and price negotiation.

  • Liaise with other departments within the organisation to ensure projects are completed.

  • Planning, monitoring, and maintaining suitable inventory levels.

  • Raising, placing, and tracking Purchase Orders.

  • Ensuring products are purchased at the right time, to specification and at best possible price.

  • Consolidate customer forecasts from the sales team, to use as support for accurate stock holding.

  • Purchasing of packaging/ingredients for Factory Trials, ensuring goods are on site in time for the trials whilst minimising any additional costs (Courier charges) where possible.

  • Conduct market research, identifying price trends, major market influences and potential future market movements.

  • Negotiating with Suppliers and building positive relationships.

  • Carry out ad hoc spot checks on stock and develop a working relationship with key warehouse staff.

  • Any other reasonable duties or tasks that may be issued by management from time to time.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role in FMCG industry.

  • Previous experience procuring ingredients/packaging.

  • Proven negotiation skills.

  • CIPS qualification (or working towards) would be desirable.

  • Advanced excel skills and good knowledge of all other Microsoft products.

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Numerical and analytical skills.

  • Innovative and able to solve problems quickly.

  • Positive attitude and adaptable to any environment.

  • Ability to keep calm under pressure and prioritise in a strategic manner.

Shift Pattern:

  • Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm (1 hour lunch) - Office based
